My Life

My photo
What a life I have lived since setting off into the sunset in August of 2008, with my husband, Dave, on our 46 foot Hunter Sailboat. We sailed to the Mainland side of Mexico; Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, and many small anchorages in between. We saw unbelievable sea life and scenery. Our adventures took us to the Sea of Cortez for hurricane season in 2009 anchored off the fishing village of Bahia de los Angeles, in Baja California. We fell in love with the village and it's people and got to know a few of the Americans that enjoy living there in the winter. We knew we had found our paradise and looked for a place to live. We found a small house on the sandy beach at the south end of the bay and made it a permanent home. We ended our cruising life to become CLODs and eventually sold Wave Sweeper in May of 2016. Because of my back problems we were unable to make long passages so our cruising had come to an end. Now Wave Sweeper is in good hands with the new owners and they love her. We are living our life and dream as we want and the adventures will only get better.

Cold Enough For Layers

The pizza party was fun as always and everyone seemed to have a great time. It is nice to get together and eat and visit with one another. We see these people from time to time, but things like this help us find out more about each other.

Our good friends just got back to Bahia last night. They will be here until February. They had to leave in October to get a new roof put on their house in Oregon before rain started. So with that done they are back. I asked them to bring some things back with them that I needed so I just picked them up and got big hugs in return.

Left this morning for Guerrero Negro to get money. While we were there we stopped in a second hand store looking for a 5 drawer chest. They had a couple but they were too big. We have a small space to put it in so eventually we will find what we want. It is fun looking.

Not much going on this month. We have one more train game before most of the ladies go north for the holidays.

Had our friends, Connie, Brett and Mary Ann over for dinner.

Ernie has been in the Fire Academy now for 3 months and has worked and studied hard to graduate. On the 14th he did that which made us really proud. He has always wanted to be a medic since he was in the Air Force but things just didn't work out. He held on to that dream and finally decided that was what he wanted to do with his life and in order to do that he would have to join the academy to become a fire fighter. So we are happy to say he graduated at the top of his class and he was the oldest member so he was the example to the young guys and gals. Now he is working part time for the Arlington Fire Department hoping to get hired by anyone who is looking for good men.  What an accomplishment!!! No matter how old you get there is still time to accomplish a dream if you work hard enough and really want it!!! He has a steady job selling propane so if all works out he may not be doing that anymore when he gets hired full time with a fire station. Time will tell. An adventure for him that is for sure!!!

Jon is doing well and is liking his job. He seems happier now and Susannah his wife likes her job just not the commute. They both are commuting north of where they live, but you do what you have to. I hope someday soon they will be able to sell their home and buy a bigger one. They have really outgrown their place. But time will tell and it all seems to work out the way it is supposed to. So good things are in their future.

We had our gate guard add more to the rock wall by the arroyo. He did a great job. Next year we will have him finish another section and then we will be done.

We had a tire going flat on the black truck so I took it into town and asked Sammy, the mechanic to look at it and he found a nail. So it is all fixed now.

Our washing machine decided to start leaking so Dave took a look at it and found that the hose had been cross threaded so he tried to fix it but now we are getting drips of water from the hot water outlet which doesn't make sense since we aren't hooked up to hot water. Well Dave is stumped so I just decided to stuff a towel around the hot water outlet and put a small bucket behind the washer to catch the drips when the towel gets saturated. The machine is like 25 years old so it has been worked hard. One day we will get a new one, but for now we just make due. It sure beats washing clothes in a bucket. Ha!!

The weather has been windy but that isn't unusual for this time of year. We normally get high winds and a little rain now and then. But for the most part it is sunny even if it isn't really warm. It gives me a chance to wear my winter clothes.

I haven't felt like decorating this year for Christmas. If we were going to entertain then I would but it will just be Dave and I. I usually put up a small strand of lights inside the house as that makes it feel a little bit more like Christmas, but I'm passing this year. I am hoping to get some decorations and lights next year and a fiber optic small Christmas tree like we had on the boat.

Dave and I were invited to Connie and Bretts for Christmas dinner. She has 3 other people there and we had a feast of ham, turkey and all the trimmings. I made vegetables and an apple pie. It was a fun time and we had a few laughs. We ate at 2:00pm and we were home by 5:00pm. Just before we left their place, which is north of where we live, Connie said it looked as though it was raining and I looked but just saw clouds and said it was just the clouds we had over the mountains earlier. Well guess what!!! I was wrong. It had rained at our house but it was nice and sunny at Connie's. When we got home things were damp but it didn't look as though it rained a lot. Once we got settled inside, then it did start to rain off and on for a short time then it stopped. There was no mention of rain in the forecast but that doesn't mean anything. Dave and I had a nice Christmas that was shared with friends!!

It looks like it will be windy on New Years Eve which means we won't be having a bon fire. Our gate guard's wife is away on the mainland while he is here so I am thinking of having him over for dinner on New Years Eve. His wife will be home the first week of January.

Our Grandson, E.J. got to fly home for Christmas. That was exciting for Conor and Brody and of course Ernie and Brooke. It is nice he can do that and wants to. E.J. got to snow board for the first time in his life and he loved it. That was really cool. It is nice they all are spending some quality time together. E.J. flies back to the base on the 22nd so he will have New Year's Eve in New Jersey!! We were able to chat with everyone the day before Christmas.

It has been cold here. Cold enough to wear layers and warmer clothes. Usually that happens this time of year and continues until mid to end of January. I am so glad we have a short winter season!! It's a good time to do things inside. I am working on a counted cross stitch soccer player for our grandson Brody so that is keeping me busy. Have projects started in the art room but it is too cold to work down there for now until it warms up. The glue won't hold because it is too cold.

There had been talk of a party in town for New Year's Eve, but we weren't interested in going. We were able to participate in a couple of their New Year's Eve parties which was ok. They usually don't start music until around 10 and because they hold it outside it is cold. No thanks. We stayed home and watched TV and wrapped up in a blanket to keep warm. We didn't stay up to welcome the new year in, we figured we could do that when we got up in the morning.

Our gate guard wasn't home on New Year's Eve so we didn't invite him to dinner. He decided to spend it in town with his family since his wife is away. He is kind of lonely!

Here is to the end of 2018 and hopefully a bright 2019.
