Happy June. School is
almost out for the kids and today, the 2nd is our
grandson, Cameron's 4th birthday.
We woke up to see this little guy on the fence outside our trailer window.
I went for a walk today and was happy to see the view I did of the Bremerton Ferry and Mount Rainer. It was a good walk but I had to climb a hill and found how out of shape I really am. Got to get back to walking on a regular bases!!! Anyone listening to me would have thought I was a train huffing and puffing up that hill. Yeesh!!! It was worth it to get these pictures!!!!
On the 3rd,
there was a Celebration of Life for our friend Jacqui Stevenson. I
wrote about her in the last blog. It was a great gathering with lots
of food, games, stories and pictures. It is what should be done when
one has passed instead of a funeral!! Remember their life in a happy
way. It reminds me of the way the Mexican people treat the dead.
Each year they honor their loved ones who have passed with food,
flowers and a big celebration!!!
Dave took the truck into
the dealer to have a protective coating put on the front and side of
the truck to protect from dings and such when you are driving. They
said it would take a couple of days so they gave him a rental. It
was a brand new 2019 Toyota Camry. Sporty looking car.
Judy, my girlfriend and I
got together so she could help me with a memory bear pattern. The
Elmo pajamas that Conor outgrew, was given to me so I could make a
memory bear for him. Last year Judy gave me a pattern and said it
was simple. Well parts of it was, then I hit a brick wall. I worked
with it a lot trying to make it go together, but just couldn't. So I
brought it up with me to Washington because I knew if anyone could
figure it out, she could!! She is a seamstress and quilt maker.
Well she found out it wasn't such a simple pattern after all.
Someone gave her the pattern and she never tried it. We got as far
as putting the head, arms, back/front and then came the legs. We
ended up just putting it down and Judy said she would try to figure
it out. She is going to London to visit her grandson who is in the
Air Force soon, so when she returns we will attack it again.
Today, the 8th,
my eldest sister turned 81. Good for her. I hope she has a few more
good years ahead.
Our son, Michael and his girlfriend Cathy are into the Renaissance Fair and have a part in it. They have been involved for years. Michael invited us to stop by if we wanted to. So we did. The fair was being held across the street from the Bremerton Airport. We found him and Cathy at the archery range. They both had been shooting at targets. Michael has a cross bow and Cathy bow and arrows. They are pretty good. They were dressed in that period of their clan.
There were demonstrations on axe throwing, jousting and much more.
It was fun and very interesting and loved the costumes!!! I had never been to a Renaissance Fair before so it was quite interesting.
We were supposed to go to
Port Ludlow this morning to have breakfast with the Commodore of the
Sail and Power Squadron. He and his wife stayed in the back bay of
Port Ludlow to clean the tide marker. Each year it is up to the
Commodore of the Sail and Power Squadron in June to clean it. It
used to be a big deal when we had a lot of members and it was always
fun, but the squadron has dwindled so there are hardly anyone willing
to spend a weekend in the back bay of Port Ludlow and harass the
Commodore and watch him/her get dirty and wet!!!! Then on Sunday we
always went to breakfast at the restaurant there at the resort. So
we were dressed and getting ready to leave when we got a call and
said don't come as the restaurant was closed for an emergency!! So
instead of having breakfast in Port Ludlow, we decided to go to
breakfast anyway and went to the Pancake house in town.
The sun is out in
Bremerton and it feels wonderful. It is supposed to heat up into the
80's and be nice for Father's Day. We are headed for Sequim on the
11th for a week. There is a nice RV park we saw when we
were in that area a couple weeks ago. The 15th our
friends, Ron and Noreen will join us in Sequim so we can walk the
Dungeness Spit. At low tide you can walk the sandbar to the
lighthouse. It is 5 miles to the lighthouse one way. It will be a
trek but there aren't any hills so hopefully my back will let me do
it.
We are leaving the trailer
at the RV Park on Father's Day to come back to Ron and Noreen's house
for a gathering of friends and Michael, our son, his son and
girlfriend will be there. The weather is supposed to be nice. Then
we will head back to Sequim and enjoy for a couple more days before
head back to Bremerton.
We stayed at GilGal RV
Park in Sequim which is on the East side of the Olympic mountains.
After getting settled at the park, I saw a Robin fly into the tree that was in our camp site. I looked closer and found little birds that hatched. So mom or dad was feeding them. I got some pictures and there were four. So cute.
I tried not to make much noise and the mom didn't seem to mind we were there.
The next morning I poured a cup of coffee and went outside to sit and enjoy the morning. It was a beautiful sunny day with just a little cool in the air. I happened to look down at the grass and saw a grey blob. I wondered what it was and got up and investigated. To my surprise it was one of the baby birds. I was shocked. He/she was just laying there in a huddle breathing. I didn't think it would survive. I didn't want to mess with it so I left it there hoping mom/dad would come back. I looked in the tree and the babies were gone. Something scared them out of the nest and it looks like there was only one survivor. As I sat there I heard the mom/dad calling and to my amazement this little thing chirped in answer. Then the adult came closer and because I was too close it wouldn't come to the baby. But low and behold that little thing started moving and chirping. Then it was up on his legs and hoping toward the adult. I couldn't believe my eyes. Yay!!!! What a strong little bird. The adult was able to get one feeding in. After that Dave and I left camp and came back later that afternoon and the little bird was gone! We hoped it got strong and was able to fly away!!! Wow, nature is so amazing!!!
The sun was shining and it was quite warm for the first 2 days, in
the 80's as a matter of fact!! Our kind of weather. We got settled
into our spot with the help of the camp host. It was rather painless
with the help. The sites are close together but each site has a
small grass area with a picnic table and some small trees. We are
here for a week so we plan on exploring.
One day we went to Port
Angeles to shop at Harbor Freight. Dave was able to find a couple of
items he needed and I had fun just snooping. Another day I walked to
the grocery and hardware store which was wasn't far away. I wanted
to go to the Dollar Tree but it didn't look as though it was open, so
I walked to the hardware store and found some interesting things to
look at. Then to the grocery store to pick up a couple items. When
I got back to the trailer I told Dave he had to go to the hardware
store to check it out.
Another time we walked
through the town of Sequim. Not many shops there but it was fun just
to walk and see what was there. I had to take a picture of this old
wrecker truck. Reminded me of the Disney Movie for Queen, the race
car and his buddies and the wrecker was named Ma tur!!
Anyway—then
I had to take a picture of an old grainery. Right in the middle of
town is awesome.
We ended up at a treasure
second hand store and Goodwill. I can't pass up one of those. I
found a couple kitchen utensils and a Celtic knot basket to hang on
the wall. For 99 cents I couldn't pass it up. Dave's heritage is
Welsh. On our way home we stopped at a Thrift shop, then had lunch at the Hwy 101 diner. It was decorated in black and white and a lot of pictures of Elvis Presley and James Dean.
After lunch we continued to walk home looking in the shop windows. Noreen had told us about a Import fabric place we had to stop in. It is named Unique Imports and the material comes from around the world. A lot have an Indian flare to it. They had some beautiful
fabrics and I had fun looking. We enjoyed talking to the owner. Very nice and friendly lady. We left there and got back to the trailer. That was quite a walk but fun. I
had put in my 10,000 steps. That made 2 days in a row.
On Saturday the 15th,
our friends, Ron and Noreen couldn't join us for the Dungeness Spit
walk. That was disappointing but family came to visit them and that
is super important. So Dave and I went down to the Dungeness State
Park and headed out on the spit. It was a cold and brisk day but the
sun was shining. There was so much beautiful drift wood lying around
and a few seagull waiting for the wind to come up.
The wind was
supposed to come up later in the day so we wanted to get the walk in
early. You can't take anything off the beach which is kind of a
bummer, but we understand. Dave and I walked almost 2 miles when we
decided to turn around and head back to the car. I was wearing a hat
but I needed something to cover my ears as the cold made them hurt.
Dave said the same thing. I found out there was no way I would have
been able to make it to the lighthouse and back without having major
hurt with my back. Oh well! Next time I hope we can walk further
and I would definitely wear a knit hat that covers my ears, and shoes
made to walk on sand and pebbles. I was dressed warm otherwise. It
is a beautiful place!!
Sunday, Father's Day, Dave
drove back to Bremerton to Ron and Noreen's to celebrate with some of
their friends, family and our son, Michael, his son David, and
Michael's lady Cathy. We had barbecue tri-tip steak, potato
casserole, pasta salad, appetizers and lots of sweet deserts!!! This picture is of our son Michael with his girlfriend.
Then there is our eating area in the driveway. It was too hot to eat on the patio. Ron and Dave wore their hats.
Above is our grandson David, Michael's son. Looks just like his dad did at that age.
We
played bocce ball in their backyard and had a blast. Around 6:00pm,
we decided to leave right after Michael did, since he was parked
behind us!! We were back to the trailer in Sequim around 8:30 or so.
I called my boys to wish them a happy father's day and unfortunately
Ernie had to fly out to Gardner, California to attend meetings on
Monday-Thursday.
Monday we visited our
friends who use to belong to the Sail and Power Squadron when we were
involved. They have a beautiful home in Sequim so we got the tour of
their house and acreage. They have about 2 acres which they have
chickens, a garden outside in raised beds and a hot house with the
more delicate plants. In the front yard a cherry, and pear tree, and
a couple more as well. It keeps them busy that is for sure. Julie
is still working from home while Dan does the upkeep to the yard
along with a hired gardener. They also have another building on
their property which they use as an Air B and B. Dan's mother lives
in a small home that is attached to the house. She is 99 years old.
Wow! Sequim is known for having the best weather year round with
little rain. We can see why people want to move there. But they
still have a lot of gray skies which would not be good for me! I
need warmth and sunshine!
Tuesday we packed up the
trailer and headed back to Bremerton. We did get an invite to join
some of our older friends at an RV park not far from Sequim, but we
couldn't. I had a doctor appointment on Thursday so we had to
decline. It would have been fun. We heard from them that they
walked to some Falls, did beach walking and Tide pooling and had a
great time.
We are back in Bremerton
now and it poured yesterday evening. We couldn't believe it. There
was another time when we had heavy rain also. At least the trailer
gets washed and the truck too!
Today was my doctor visit
and all is well except for some suspicious spots on my face and one
on my back. Doctor is referring me to a dermatologist. I had asked
him a while back to send me to one and he did, but when I got there
the doctor looked at me like I had 2 heads and didn't do anything.
He just said my spots were nothing. Well those spots keep coming
back and my doctor asked about my nose. I told him that I had had a
spot on it froze a long time ago but I still get sores coming back
and it hurts when I accidentally hit it. About 2017, I had a tiny
piece of growth on my left shoulder cut out and it was cancerous so I
am always watchful. So now I will be seeing a different
dermatologist and hope for better results. Then sometime before I
leave to go back to Mexico, I get to have a colonoscopy!!! Yay????
I just hate the prep but glad I have it done. Had one polyp removed
so don't want anymore.
Saturday, the 22nd
was a birthday party for our grandson, Cameron. He turned 4 on the
2nd. It was a cold gray day and they were holding the
party at a park in Tacoma. We got their around 1:00 as we were going
to take the boys home with us to stay the night. My son Jon was
waiting for his wife to bring the cake as it was in the back of her
car. Jon didn't have room in his for it. Well she ended up getting
sick but managed to deliver the cake anyway. We saw her for a few
minutes and wished her well. After she left the pizza arrived. So
all of the kids were called for pizza and cake. Cameron was really
excited and got some great gifts.
After all the presents
were opened we cleaned up, and Jon took all the stuff to his car and
then moved his car behind our truck so he could put the boys car
seats in the truck. Then we left and when we got to the trailer the
boys were really excited. Cameron likes to cook so he was using Ron
and Noreen's small fire pit with a grill on it to cook steaks (which
were bricks); vegetables (rocks) for an outdoor picnic. Jonathan Jr.
played soccer with grandpa and I was invited to sit on the patio and
wait for the picnic to begin. After awhile at play it was actual
dinner time. I made mac and cheese and chicken nuggets for the boys.
Dave and I had leftovers. After dinner and dishes, we went outside
some more to enjoy what was left of the sunshine. Then the call came
to clean up and put everything back where they found it. They also
dug in the dirt and rocks. So once that was done, they came inside.
We pulled the sofa sleeper out for the boys to sleep on and they
never saw one of them before and were so surprised and excited. They
brought their sleeping bags and pillows to sleep in and on.
Around
10:00pm we called lights out and we all went to bed. The boys went
right to sleep.
Next morning we had
breakfast and got all their things packed up as we were taking them
back home. We got the boys to their house around 1:00pm. Stayed for
a short time as Susannah still wasn't feeling well. We gave hugs and
kisses and then it was off to Ernie's to dog and house sit while they
were in Spokane for the week. Ernie and family left that morning so
we won't see them until Friday when they get home. Unfortunately
Brody has to go to his dad's for the weekend so we won't get to see
him. But there is still lots of summer left to get to see him.
It was kind of boring at
Ern's but we did get out and I went to the Good Will store to get a
book and then there was grocery shopping. They didn't have much
food. They took a lot with them in the trailer.
Friday came and they came
home late afternoon. Conor was really tired so he wasn't real
sociable. We visited with Ern and Brooke after Conor went to bed.
Heading back to the trailer in the morning.
